Bourke Street Bakery
Project Description: Develop a brand strategy and related physical environment for a nominated brand. They are to prepare a creative response to the brief and develop a comprehensive brand strategy and environmental concept for their nominated commercial brand. The brand must be reinvigorated for community place making in the location associated with group work in Assessment 4.
Bourke Street Bakery is located next to the Sydney Harbour at Shelly Lane in Central Barangaroo
Bourke Street Bakery was first started by Paul Allam and DavidMcGuinness back in 2004 in Surry Hills. This Barangaroo bakery is their 10th bakery in Sydney. Barangaroo is projected to be one of Sydney’s busiest places in the coming years and this successful bakery needs a future proof design to cope with the projected development.
After a careful study of the brand, it was noted that the brand needs to change to suit the new Barangaroo location. The brand provided a product range that was a bit confusing to customers since different Bourke Street bakeries offer different range of products. There was also no clear delineation between the bakery, café and restaurant.
The new Barangaroo bakery design was the opportunity to resolve these issues. The colour of the finishes and the furniture at the Bourke Street Bakery are similar to the previous bakeries under the brand. I have decided to keep the consistancy of the colours, textures and furniture but have given the bakery a different look and a better functioning layout. With the choice to have a defined entry and a defined exit helped to control the flow of customer traffic. The open windows and large windows allow for much more natural lighting brightening up the Bakery compared other locations such as Potts Point.
